About Our Shop
Around 2014, Bert Anderson was a graduate student of biogeochemistry toiling away in a windowless lab at the University of South Florida. With plenty of caffeine and a few fountain pens on his desk, he started using his chemistry training (and the library) to develop inks for his own personal use. Fast forward to 2018 and Bert was deep into the development of our first line of inks, based on squids and octopus, called the Cephalopod Series, and Anderillium Ink was born. Now we have expanded, Bert’s mother Karen and his son Soren work regularly at Anderillium. If you find us at a pen show, you’ll probably run into nieces, nephews, sisters, other family members and friends that have helped along the way. Anderillium is family business through and through, and has been a very fun journey for us to embark on together. If you want more of our stories, Bert is also an author, you can purchase a signed paperback of his sci-fi novel Second Evolution at this link.
We hand make all of our inks in our own laboratory in the suburbs of Tampa, Florida. We don’t use any animal products in our inks or our packaging. Everyone at Anderillium is passionate about protecting our oceans and our wildlife, and we choose to use the most sustainable and environmentally friendly materials whenever possible, even if it costs us a bit more.
A big thanks to our friend Kevin Reinert who created the artwork for the Cephalopod Series of inks. If you want to see more of his work, or you’re in Maui and want a tattoo, look him up at TrueTattoos1923 on Instagram or email him at TrueTattoos@gmail.com.
Britta Anderson (Bert’s sister) created the beautiful paintings of each of the unique birds of the Avian Series.
Gay Sybert created the wonderful watercolors for the Lepidopteran Series. You can find more of their work on instagram @GaySybert
